For healthcare professionals
Locum work, without the agency
LocumLink helps registered healthcare professionals find relief shifts at pharmacies, clinics, hospitals and practices across South Africa. You set your own hourly rate, and you keep all of it — LocumLink takes no commission and charges no agency fees.
Who can register
Any healthcare professional registered with a South African statutory council. The platform currently supports three:
| South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) | Pharmacists · Pharmacist's assistants · Pharmacy technicians |
|---|---|
| South African Nursing Council (SANC) | Professional and general nurses · Midwives · Staff, enrolled and auxiliary nurses |
| Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) | Doctors · Dentists and oral hygienists · Radiographers and clinical technologists · Physiotherapists and biokineticists · Occupational therapists · Dietitians · Optometrists · Psychologists · Emergency care practitioners · Speech, language and hearing therapists |
If your council is not listed and you would like it added, tell us.
You set your own rate
Your rate lives on your profile and is entirely yours to set. Businesses see it when they search, and it is the rate that applies when they book you. LocumLink does not take a cut of it and does not add a mark-up on top for the business to pay. Creating a profile is free and there is no subscription.
This is the practical difference from a traditional locum agency, where the agency adds its margin on top of your rate. That margin makes you more expensive to book, without putting anything in your pocket.
How to get started
Create your profile
Set your hourly rate, pin your location on the map, and add the dates you are available.
Upload your council registration
Your SAPC, SANC or HPCSA registration and qualification certificates. They stay private until you accept a booking — then that business can check them.
Receive booking requests
Businesses near you search by location, date and qualification, and send requests directly to you.
Accept the shifts you want
You are never obliged to accept a request. Decline anything that does not suit you.
Who can see your documents
Being straight with you about this, because it is your ID and your qualifications.
| Can open your documents | You. LocumLink administrators. And a business only after you have accepted a booking with them — they are responsible for confirming your registration before you work, so they need to see what you uploaded. |
|---|---|
| You decide who sees them | A business browsing search results cannot open anything. Nor can one that has only sent you a request. Nothing is visible until you accept the booking, so no one sees your ID without you agreeing to work with them first. |
| Cannot open them | Anyone not signed in. Other professionals. Businesses you have not accepted a booking from. Search engines. There is no public link to your documents and never has been one. |
| Every view is logged | Who opened it and when, including refused attempts. You can read that log yourself on your account privacy page. |
| You stay in control | Download everything we hold about you, or delete your account and your documents, at any time. Deletion removes the files from disk. |
LocumLink complies with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Businesses may use your documents only to assess you for engagement, and may not share or distribute them off the platform.
Where LocumLink operates
All nine provinces — Gauteng, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Free State, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Northern Cape. Businesses search by distance from their location, so the shifts you see are the ones near you.
Your status
Locums engage as independent contractors, not as employees. You remain responsible for your own tax, registration, insurance and professional compliance, as you would with any relief work.
