The difference

No agency fees.

A locum agency is paid by adding a margin to the locum's rate. The practice is quoted a rate that includes it, and the locum is paid a rate that has had it taken out.

LocumLink is a marketplace, not an agency. The rate a business sees is the rate the locum set, and it is the rate the locum is paid.

The locum sets the rate Each professional sets their own rate on their profile. That is the rate a business sees, and the rate that applies to the booking.
LocumLink adds nothing to it No commission, no booking fee, no placement fee, no percentage.

How it works

Four steps, either side of the counter.

If you're a professional

  1. Set your rate and availability

Your hourly rate, your location, the dates you can work.

  2. Upload your council registration

SAPC, SANC or HPCSA. Businesses considering you can see your documents.

  3. Receive booking requests

From practices near you, matched to your availability.

  4. Accept the shifts you want

Decline anything that doesn't suit you. No obligation.

If you're a business

  1. Register your business

Add every branch that needs cover, on one account.

  2. Search by date and distance

Locums already booked in that window are excluded automatically.

  3. Send a booking request

The locum accepts or declines. You're notified either way.

  4. Confirm the details

Agree arrival time and site specifics through the platform.

Verification and privacy

We don't verify qualifications. You do.

Documents, not guarantees

Locums upload their own registration and qualification documents, and we make them available to the business considering them. We do not check them against any council register.

Verification is the business's job

Before you engage anyone, confirm their registration directly with the SAPC, SANC or HPCSA. That is your responsibility as the engaging party, exactly as it would be for any other hire.

Your documents are never public

Stored outside the public web, with no shareable link. A business can open them only after you have accepted a booking with them — so you decide who ever sees your ID. Every view is logged, and you can see exactly who looked and when.

LocumLink complies with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Questions

Frequently asked.

Does LocumLink charge agency fees?
No. LocumLink charges no agency fees and takes no commission on the rate a healthcare business pays a locum. The locum sets their own rate and keeps all of it. This is the main difference between LocumLink and a traditional locum agency.
Who can register as a locum on LocumLink?
Healthcare professionals registered with a South African statutory council: the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), the South African Nursing Council (SANC) or the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). That covers pharmacists and pharmacist assistants, nurses and midwives, doctors and dentists, radiographers, dietitians, optometrists, physiotherapists and other allied health professionals. You will be asked to upload your qualification and registration documents so that businesses considering you can see them.
How do I find locum healthcare work in South Africa?
Create a free LocumLink profile, set your hourly rate, pin your location and add your availability. Upload your council registration and qualification documents. Pharmacies, clinics, hospitals and practices near you can then find you and send booking requests directly, which you accept or decline. This works the same whether you are a locum pharmacist, a locum nurse, a locum doctor or another registered healthcare professional.
How quickly can a healthcare business find locum cover?
Search results are immediate. You can search available locums by location, date and qualification, then send a booking request straight away. How fast it is confirmed depends on how quickly the locum responds.
Does LocumLink verify qualifications?
No. LocumLink does not verify qualifications or registration status. Locums upload their documents and LocumLink makes them available to the business considering them, but we do not check them against any council register. Confirming that a professional is currently registered and in good standing with the SAPC, SANC or HPCSA is the responsibility of the business engaging them, as it would be with any hire. Always check the relevant council's register directly.
How are payments handled?
Payments are made directly between the healthcare business and the locum. LocumLink does not currently process payments on the platform, and takes no cut of the rate agreed between the two parties.
Can I cancel a booking?
Yes. Bookings and cancellations are free. We ask both sides to communicate clearly and give as much notice as possible.
Is my personal information safe?
Yes. LocumLink complies with POPIA. Qualification documents are stored outside the public web root, are accessible only to you and LocumLink administrators, and every access is logged. You can download everything we hold about you, or delete your account, from your account privacy page.
What does it cost a healthcare business to use LocumLink?
You pay the locum's rate directly. LocumLink does not add an agency mark-up on top of that rate.
Which areas of South Africa does LocumLink cover?
All nine provinces. You can search by distance from any of your pharmacy locations, so coverage depends on which locums are registered near you.
