FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about locum work and booking cover across South African healthcare.

Does LocumLink charge agency fees?
No. LocumLink charges no agency fees and takes no commission on the rate a healthcare business pays a locum. The locum sets their own rate and keeps all of it. This is the main difference between LocumLink and a traditional locum agency.
Who can register as a locum on LocumLink?
Healthcare professionals registered with a South African statutory council: the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), the South African Nursing Council (SANC) or the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). That covers pharmacists and pharmacist assistants, nurses and midwives, doctors and dentists, radiographers, dietitians, optometrists, physiotherapists and other allied health professionals. You will be asked to upload your qualification and registration documents so that businesses considering you can see them.
How do I find locum healthcare work in South Africa?
Create a free LocumLink profile, set your hourly rate, pin your location and add your availability. Upload your council registration and qualification documents. Pharmacies, clinics, hospitals and practices near you can then find you and send booking requests directly, which you accept or decline. This works the same whether you are a locum pharmacist, a locum nurse, a locum doctor or another registered healthcare professional.
How quickly can a healthcare business find locum cover?
Search results are immediate. You can search available locums by location, date and qualification, then send a booking request straight away. How fast it is confirmed depends on how quickly the locum responds.
Does LocumLink verify qualifications?
No. LocumLink does not verify qualifications or registration status. Locums upload their documents and LocumLink makes them available to the business considering them, but we do not check them against any council register. Confirming that a professional is currently registered and in good standing with the SAPC, SANC or HPCSA is the responsibility of the business engaging them, as it would be with any hire. Always check the relevant council's register directly.
How are payments handled?
Payments are made directly between the healthcare business and the locum. LocumLink does not currently process payments on the platform, and takes no cut of the rate agreed between the two parties.
Can I cancel a booking?
Yes. Bookings and cancellations are free. We ask both sides to communicate clearly and give as much notice as possible.
Is my personal information safe?
Yes. LocumLink complies with POPIA. Qualification documents are stored outside the public web root, are accessible only to you and LocumLink administrators, and every access is logged. You can download everything we hold about you, or delete your account, from your account privacy page.
What does it cost a healthcare business to use LocumLink?
You pay the locum's rate directly. LocumLink does not add an agency mark-up on top of that rate.
Which areas of South Africa does LocumLink cover?
All nine provinces. You can search by distance from any of your pharmacy locations, so coverage depends on which locums are registered near you.
